Aviva Geismar is a licensed massage therapist, a certified GYROKINESIS and GYROTONIC instructor, a movement educator and a professional dancer and choreographer.
From 1995 to 2010 she was on the faculty of the massage therapy program at The Swedish Institute, teaching massage technique, tools of assessment, sports massage and anatomy and physiology. She has also taught for the New York Chapter of the AMTA and for Massage Space NYC. She has been very influenced by her extensive bodywork training with Dr. George Russell with whom she has trained and co-taught since 2007. Aviva has a private practice in New York City in which integrates a range of treatment approaches including deep tissue massage, therapeutic movement, trigger point work, Swedish massage, postural analysis and orthopedic assessment techniques.
Aviva directs the modern dance company, Drastic Action, which has performed and taught extensively in the US and in Germany. She holds a BFA and MFA in dance and has been a guest teacher at many colleges including the University of Maryland, Rutgers University and Ursinus College. She is currently teaching anatomy in the dance program at Marymount Manhattan College.
